erasure/agitation chronicles the enduring impact of the United States’ Civil War. From historical statements, photography, and personal memory, a multi-layered narrative emerges — struggling to locate, within the contemporary landscape, the legacy of abolitionists Frederick Douglass and John Brown.

Their lives were held together by a singular moral conviction: that slavery was the deepest sin America had ever committed against itself.

Images were made in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
